The history of Penngrove Kenwood Village Water Company (PKWC) started in 1944, when Mr. James J. Downey purchased the original Penngrove Water Company from Tony Ronsheimer, a local Penngrove resident.
In 1962, Penngrove Water Co. made its connection to the then newly installed Petaluma Aqueduct of The Sonoma County Water Agency.
Later in 1996, Mr. Downey's son, James B. Downey, purchased the company along with The Kenwood Village Water System, merging into what is known now as Penngrove Kenwood Village Water Co.
We are an investor-owned public utility, regulated by California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC). Our water system is also regulated by Division of Drinking Water, State Water Resources Control Board.
